The Eiffel Tower is an iron tower built on the Champ de Mars beside the Seine River in Paris. The tower has become a global icon of France and is one of the most recognizable structures in the  world. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the Eiffel Tower is the tallest building in Paris.

Lyon is the second largest city in France, located in the Rhone-Alpes region, some 450 km south of Paris. Lyon is known as a gastronomic city with a vibrant cultural scene. Lyon is between two hills: the Fourvière and Croix-Rousse and between two rivers: the turbulent Rhône and the tranquil Saône. Every evening more than 100 sites are lit up to show the splendor of Lyon’s architecture.

France has everything that you could ever want to see on your holidays: a great city like Paris, good beaches, more monuments than any other country, lovely nature, incredible mountain scenery; need I go on? Whether it's gastronomic greatness, artistic endeavor or cultural cachet you're looking for, there's no doubt that France still sits right at the top of the European heap. France is the country for which the word chic was invented - seductive and aloof, old-fashioned and forward-looking, but always characterized by a certain je ne sais quoi.

A good part of our stay in France was spent in Paris - walking down to the Notre Dame, taking in the scene of the revolution at the Bastille, the world famous Champs Elysee bringing back memories of the Joe Dassin classic, the climb up the Arc De Triomphe and of course the piece de resistance - la Tour Eiffel as the locals call it.

We also explored the wonderful palace at Versaille and then took the TGV train down to explore the countryside - the lights of Lyon, the colored roof-tops of Dijon and Beaune.

Dijon in eastern France, is the ancient capital of the Burgundy province. This architecturally rich city has a beautiful array of wonderfully decorated buildings and houses. Beaune is the heart of the Burgundy wine industry and is well known for the beautiful multi colored tiled roof of  the Hotel-Dieu.

Paris, the cosmopolitan capital of France, is one of the largest cities in Europe. Located in the north of the country on the river Seine, Paris has the reputation of being the most beautiful and romantic of all cities, brimming with historic associations and remaining vastly influential in the realms of culture, art, fashion, food and design. Dubbed the City of Light (la Ville Lumière), it is the most popular tourist destination in the world.
